FILMFEST MÜNCHEN in Kooperation mit dem Museum Brandhorst
The Serbian documentary filmmaker Želimir Žilnik spent his exile in Munich in the mid-1970s, where he shot a series of precise and ironic short films about the realities of so-called guest workers. After the screenings of Žilnik’s INVENTUR – METZSTRASSE 11 (1975) and Kevin Jerome Everson’s INVENTORY (2020), Žilnik and curator Can Sungu discuss the cinematic practice and the circumstances which they connect to the present, exploring questions of identity, migration, and the power of storytelling. In conjunction with the exhibition “Carrying”, this evening is part of the film program “Inventories of a City: Munich Revisited”, curated by Can Sungu, presented in collaboration with Museum Brandhorst and the Munich International Film Festival.
