FILMFEST MÜNCHEN
Latin American cinema is undergoing a profound transition: the seminal films of the latest generation of directors are being made by women. Young female directors are applying new cinematic aesthetics to personal, political, and migrant perspectives. Concurrently, however, this shift is being threatened by the far right, by budget cuts, and by the dismantling of institutions. It’s a situation that calls for artistic resilience. Filmmakers Ana Cristina Barragan, Cecilia Kang, Sol Iglesias SK, and Valentina Maurel discuss the implications, using Argentina, Ecuador, and Costa Rica as examples.
