Queer Media Society & QMS Awards e.V.
Many filmmakers from marginalized groups are seeking to move away from narratives focused solely on trauma, being pressured to come out, or tokenism. For queer cinema today, this raises the question: Are we struggling to achieve only greater visibility, or something more complex?
A queer film award, such as the QMS Award, recognizes not only visibility but also ideas about what diverse and relevant storytelling can look like.
That’s why the FilmTalk at the QMS Award ceremony will discuss the following questions: What forms of diverse storytelling do we need? How peripheral can queer characters and storylines be without becoming politically invisible? And how political do we need to once again become, especially now?
